The Displaced Ozarkian

Born in Southern California, my family moved to Missouri when I was six. I grew up in rural Southwest Missouri, and ultimately went to school at the University of Missouri - Rolla for a long, long time. I love the Ozarks , but found myself strangely unemployable after going to school for so long. Ironically, I found myself in Northern California. Couldn't stand the city life, so moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains. I'm in my mid-thirties, and have been divorced twice (what's up with that? I don't even believe in divorce). I did get something wonderful from my last marriage: a little girl who spends most of her time with me! After talking with a friend, I decided this would be a good way to vent/detail life as a rural-Ozarkian who's been transplanted into the fast-paced world of the Silicon Valley. And no, I don't think anyone in my family was a Baldknobber . Ok, there may have been a Yocham involved, but there is no record.

After graduation from UCLA in June 1999, I went work for Apple in Cuppertino, and a year later, I changed my job to Nokia in Mountain View. Then at the end of 2001, I came back to Taiwan and worked at a startup making Bluetooth chip until end of 2008. That startup does not do well, but still there.

Now I am working for a company called MStar. That is pretty much what I have been doing since graduation.

Technology Rules

Redneck Ramblings

One of my best friends is a stellar engineer and scientist. Unfortunately he hates technology. His girlfiend has as much conflict with him on this subject as I. All I can say is that the internet is one of the greatest advancements of mankind in the last fifty years, and you need to move out of DOS. Sorry, Dude, but it's the truth...We can find so many pieces of information (patents, journal articles, how to get somewhere, the operating hours of the local post office). Technology is a wonderful thing, and that's why we get paid what we make...You rock... adapt.
